Massimo Audiello is pleased to present the first New York solo exhibition of the works by Todd Arsenault on view Thursday, September 8 through Saturday, October 29, 2005. Opening reception is Thursday, September 8, from 6-8 pm.

Arsenault employs a deconstructive approach to his paintings, digitally dismantling and reinventing images-from photography, video, found images, and drawings-to create abstract and fractured environments. Merging digital technology and manipulation with the traditional modes of painting and drawing, Arsenault creates a series of exploding/imploding images that reference the landscape and resonate impermanence. The process creates an ambiguous sense of time, making it difficult to discern whether objects are coming together or breaking apart.

In his study of the power of natural phenomenon, Arsenault mimics both its destructive and constructive qualities through the digital medium. The works invoke metaphoric images of tornado as chaos while at the same time resembling pixels as building blocks for his compositions.

The exhibition will feature new paintings. The works are rich in texture, rendered in pure abstraction to expressionistic representation and composed in muted tones.

Arsenault received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003. Working in various mediums, he has shown throughout the U.S since 1998. He currently works and lives in New York City.
